Additions to Schmidt's list - On East Main St., Cato. there is a church recreation building, which is said to have been a carriage shop. The west side of the structure is a patched cobblestone wall. At the rear of the wall, quoins made of bricks can be seen. The cobblestones can be seen in spite of a covering of cement, but details of structure are not sufficiently visible to describe in any detail. Roudabush Survey page 45
Leading Cato Resident is Taken By Death
Auburn. July 22. - Edward Kennedy, a lifelong resident of the village of Cato, died yesterday afternoon at the Mercy hospital here, where he had been a patient for the last week. Born a short distance south of Cato in May, 1850, Mr. Kennedy for 39 years conducted a carriage shop In Cato.
In the affairs of the village Mr. Kennedy took a prominent part. He was a member of the Board of Education for a long period and was for years its president. Mr. Kennedy was a great admirer of the violin and had made a study of the instrument and its construction for years, Violins of his own make have attracted the commendation of artists.
Mr. Kennedy was a prominent figure In Masonic circles, having been a member of Cato lodge, No. 141. and a past member of that lodge. At the time of his death he was one of its trustees. He was also a trustee of the Cato Union Hill Cemetery association.
For two weeks the Cato man had been ailing and a week ago it was found necessary to operate. He never recovered from the shock.
Surviving are his widow, two daughters. Mrs Wells Bennett of Ann Arbor Mich. and Miss Celia M. Kennedy, a teacher at Long Branch, N. J., and a sister, Mrs. Eliza Thompson. Attribution not provided.
